Tennis team opens at Southern Intercollegiate Championships
The Kennesaw State men's tennis team opens its fall schedule this weekend at the 51st
annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Play begins Friday morning and runs through Monday.
A total of 153 players from 23 different schools will compete this weekend at the
Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens.
This tournament will be the first for the Owls under the direction of Matt Emery.
Emery was named Director of Tennis in July. He came to ʯÁñÖ±²¥ after spending six years
as an assistant men's tennis coach at the University of Kentucky.
Ten Owls are scheduled to compete this weekend: Austin Anderson, Fermin Calvo Barcelo,
Lucas de Torres Curth, Jose Galvez, Drew Lahey, Harvey Maughan, Gaston Muhammad, Sebastian
Osorio, Jack Soerel, and Bryan Triana. All 10 will play in the singles draw, along
with the following doubles pairings: Trianna / Lahey, Calvo Barcelo / de Torres Curth,
Osorio / Maughan, Muhammad / Anderson and Soerel and Galvez.
Ins and outs of fall season...
Fall tennis consists of individual tournaments, while the team matches occur only
in the spring. The Owls will compete in several individual tournaments this fall,
including the Oracle ITA Masters, ITA All-American Championships, the ITA Southern
Regional Championships, the Mecer Gridiron Classic, Wake Forest Fall Invite and the
Samford Hidden Duals.

Tournament Format…
The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions.
Play is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m. Links to the tournament page can be found

Following this weekend, the Owls are back on the court at the Oracle ITA Masters on
Sept.20-23 in Malibu, California.
