The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) in collaboration with the , offers cohort-based support for instructional innovation through its Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs). Participating in CSM's FLCs is an opportunity for teams of faculty to receive guided support as they work together to design and implement instructional innovations that contribute to a broader range of students developing the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in science and mathematics. The topics and target courses vary for each FLC cohort, but all FLCs address the following goals:
- implement research-based pedagogical practices shown to foster sense of belonging and increase student success in science and mathematics;
- create a culture of interdisciplinarity by fostering connections across disciplinary boundaries; and
- provide authentic learning experiences with intentional opportunities for student engagement with the material and with each other.
FLC teams meet regularly throughout the spring semester and early summer to a) deepen their learning, b) design and pilot their instructional innovation, and c) develop plans for full implementation of the innovation in the fall with metrics for measuring success.
FLC participants are expected to share their learnings, materials, and resources with other CSM faculty via CSM鈥檚 intranet (e.g., sample materials, outline of course activities, webinars, good problems, annotated notes, reflection blog) and through sharing sessions (e.g., brownbag lunches, seminars, departmental talks/presentations).
Part-time or full-time (including limited term) CSM faculty who are under contract with 石榴直播 during the academic year are encouraged to apply to participate in a CSM FLC.
If you are interested in participating in an FLC, please speak with your Department Chair to discuss potential projects by October 1st.
